User Guide
Everything you need to know to get the most out of ScrabbleWordsFinder.com.
Entering Your Tiles
You have two ways to input your rack tiles:
- âText solver: Type your letters directly into the search box. Just enter the letters on your rack (e.g., "AEINRST") and hit Enter or click Solve.
- âTile rack boxes: Click individual tile slots to enter one letter per box, mimicking a physical Scrabble rack. Great for visual thinkers.
Using Blank Tiles (?)
Blank tiles are wildcards that can represent any letter. Enter them as a question mark (?) in your rack.
- âYou can use up to 2 blanks (matching a real Scrabble set)
- âWords using blanks will show the blank letter in lowercase in results
- âBlank tiles score 0 points, so the solver accounts for this in point totals
Filters & Options
Narrow down results to find exactly the word you need:
- âDictionary: Switch between SOWPODS (international, 74,000+ words) and TWL (North American tournament list)
- âSort by: Points (highest first), length, or alphabetical
- âMinimum length: Only show words of a certain length or longer
- âContains: Only show words containing a specific letter or sequence
- âStarts with: Filter words by their opening letters
- âEnds with: Filter words by their ending letters
- âđ For more on how dictionaries differ, read Scrabble Dictionaries: Languages & Weird Words
Achievements & Saved Words
Track your progress and build your personal word bank:
- âUnlock achievements by finding high-scoring words, using all 7 tiles (bingo!), or discovering rare letter combinations
- âSave any word to your personal list by clicking the bookmark icon
- âSaved words persist in your browser and can be backed up to our server
- âReview saved words anytime from the Settings page
Tile Probability Tracker
Know what's left in the bag. The tile tracker shows:
- âHow many of each letter remain in the tile bag based on what you've played
- âProbability of drawing specific high-value tiles (Z, Q, X, J)
- âHelps you plan whether to exchange tiles or play defensively
Rack Leave Analyzer
Not just about the word you play â it's about what you keep. The rack leave analyzer evaluates what tiles remain on your rack after each possible play, helping you:
- âAvoid keeping clunky combinations (QU without a U, too many consonants)
- âMaintain a balanced rack for future turns
- âMaximize your scoring potential over multiple turns, not just this one
Best Opening Moves
When you go first, the solver highlights optimal opening plays that:
- âCover the center star (double word score)
- âBalance points scored vs. rack leave quality
- âAvoid opening up triple word squares for your opponent
Backup & Restore (User ID)
Your data lives in your browser by default, but you can back it up:
- âDownload User ID: Go to Settings and copy or download your anonymous UUID. This is the only key to your saved data.
- âRelink on another device: Paste your UUID into the Restore field on Settings to pull your saved words and achievements onto a new browser.
- âNo email or account needed â your UUID is your identity.
âī¸ Go to Settings to manage your backup, download your UID, or nuke localStorage.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Tool
- âUse the "Contains" filter when you see a hook opportunity on the board (e.g., add S to an existing word)
- âCheck rack leave before committing â a 30-point word with great leave beats a 35-point word with garbage leave
- âLearn the 2-letter words â they're essential for parallel plays. Use min length = 2 and max length = 2 to study them
- âSave words you didn't know â review them later to build your vocabulary
- âSwitch dictionaries if you play both casual (SOWPODS) and tournament (TWL) games
đŽ Gameplay Tactics Using the Solver
Beyond finding words, here's how to use the solver strategically during your game:
đĒ Hook Strategy
A "hook" is adding a single letter to an existing word on the board to form a new word. Use the solver to find hooks:
- âSet "Starts with" to the existing word's last letter + your tiles â find words that extend it
- âUse "Ends with" set to the first letter of a word on the board â find words you can place in front
- âThe S hook is the most powerful â adding S to almost any noun gives you two words scored simultaneously
𧎠Rack Balance Between Turns
Don't just play the highest-scoring word. Think about what you're leaving on your rack:
- âAfter solving, look at 2â3 of the top results and check the Rack Leave panel for each
- âPrefer leaves with a mix of vowels and consonants (3V/4C or 4V/3C)
- âKeeping E, R, S, T, or a blank on your rack is almost always good â they combine with anything
- âAvoid leaving duplicate letters (two I's, two O's) â they reduce your flexibility next turn
đ¯ Playing High-Value Tiles
Q, Z, X, J are worth 8â10 points each but can clog your rack. Tactics:
- âUse "Contains" filter with Q, Z, X, or J to see all words you can make right now â play them fast, don't hoard
- âMemorize QI (Q without U) â it's often the only way to play Q without wasting a turn
- âZA, ZO, XI, XU, JO â these 2-letter words let you dump rare tiles on premium squares for big points
- âIf you can't play a high-value tile in 2 turns, consider exchanging â the points you lose from a blocked rack cost more
đ Bingo Hunting (All 7 Tiles)
Playing all 7 tiles earns a +50 point bonus. Use the solver to hunt for bingos:
- âEnter all 7 tiles in the solver and look for 7-letter results â the Best Opening panel shows these with "bingo!" labels
- âIf no 7-letter word exists, try removing one tile (play 6 letters + draw 6 next turn for better bingo chance)
- âLearn the "SATINE" stem â tiles A, E, I, N, S, T form the most bingo combinations with any 7th letter
- âIf you have 6 of the SATINE letters, hold them and play your odd letter â next draw often completes a bingo
đĄī¸ Defensive Play
Sometimes the best move isn't the highest-scoring one â it's the one that blocks your opponent:
- âAfter solving, check if your top word opens a Triple Word Score for your opponent â if so, pick the next-best word that doesn't
- âUse the "Ends with" filter to find words that close off board lanes without opening premium squares
- âIn the endgame, check the Tile Bag probability â if your opponent likely has Q/Z stuck, keep the board tight
đ Parallel Plays (Double Scoring)
Place a word alongside an existing word so each adjacent pair of letters forms a valid 2-letter word. You score for ALL new words formed:
- âStudy the Two-Letter Words panel on the solver â these are your parallel play building blocks
- âA 4-letter parallel play can score 40+ points because you're forming 5 words simultaneously (your word + 4 two-letter cross-words)
- âUse "Contains" to find words with specific letters that create valid parallels against what's on the board
âąī¸ Endgame Tactics
When the tile bag is empty and you know your opponent's approximate tiles:
- âUse the Tile Bag tracker â once it shows 0 in bag, you know exactly what your opponent holds
- âIf you're ahead: play short, safe words that close the board. Don't give them openings.
- âIf you're behind: look for spots where you can play long words on premium squares. Use the solver aggressively.
- âGoing out first gives you bonus points (your opponent's remaining tiles are added to your score)

Data Management â Nuke, Download & Relink
All your data (saved words, achievements, settings) lives in your browser's localStorage. Here's how to manage it:
đĨ Download Your Data
Go to Settings and click Download Backup. This exports all your saved words, scores, and achievements as a JSON file you can keep safe.
đ Relink on Another Device
Your anonymous User ID (UUID) is the key to your data. To access your saved words on another browser or device:
- Copy your UUID from Settings on your current device
- On the new device, go to Settings â Restore
- Paste your UUID and click Restore â your words and achievements will sync
đŖ Nuke localStorage
Need a fresh start? The Nuke button in Settings permanently deletes ALL local data â saved words, achievements, preferences, and your User ID. This cannot be undone.
â ī¸ Always download a backup before nuking. Once gone, there's no way to recover your data without the UUID.
đĒ Cookies & What Happens Without Them
